THE COMPETITION

The Miss Plus America Pageant System

The Miss Plus America (MPA) Pageant is a multi-tiered competition that welcomes delegates of all ages from across the nation to compete in one of two categories of representation.

  1. At-Large Delegates: These delegates come from states without licensed State Directors. They are assigned national-level mentors who guide them through competition protocols.

  2. State Delegates: These delegates represent states that hold licensed state-level competitions. State Directors mentor their competitors and provide guidance on competition protocols.

Both pathways lead to the highly anticipated annual Miss Plus America competition!

Competition Categories

The Miss Plus America pageant features three key competition categories:

  • Interview

  • What’s Your Plus - Outfit of Choice

  • Evening Gown

All delegates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen

  • Be a natural-born female

  • Wear a size 12 or larger

PRELIMINARY COMPETITION CATEGORIES

INTERVIEW

  • Details: Delegates participate in a round-robin-style interview with 3–5 judges. The interview begins with a self-introduction (no longer than 30 seconds) and includes questions based on the delegate’s fact sheet and current events. Topics can range from global issues to personal platforms.

  • Attire: Dressy, conservative attire is recommended. The goal is to present a professional, polished look rather than a sexy one.

  • Scoring: The interview accounts for 33% of the preliminary total score. The judges’ decisions are final.

WHAT’S YOUR PLUS - OUTFIT OF CHOICE

  • Details: Delegates showcase their unique “Plus” on stage in a brief speech while modeling an outfit that represents their individuality. Examples include a rhinestone-studded lab coat, a traditional Indian sari, or a retro 1950s pencil skirt and apron. Props are allowed but must be manageable without assistance.

  • Attire: Outfits should align with the delegate’s chosen theme and include formal footwear such as heels, sandals, or mules. Creativity is encouraged.

  • Scoring: This category accounts for 33% of the preliminary total score.

EVENING GOWN

  • Details: Delegates wear floor-length gowns, although high-low hemlines are allowed. Gowns should complement the delegate’s skin tone and be worn with proper foundations. Heels are required unless medically exempt (with a doctor’s note).

  • Scoring: The evening gown category accounts for 33% of the preliminary total score.

FINAL COMPETITION CATEGORIES

The top five delegates in each division (Miss, Ms., Mrs., and Ultimate Woman) advance to the Finals Night Competition. If fewer than five delegates compete in a division, the top three advance.

Finalists compete in the following categories:

  • On-Stage Interview

  • What’s Your Plus - Outfit of Choice

  • Evening Gown

Preliminary scores carry over, and each Finals Night category counts for 25% of the total score.

ON-STAGE INTERVIEW

  • Details: Delegates draw a question from a fishbowl and answer it live on stage. Questions are read by the emcee, and delegates have 30 seconds to respond with clarity, diplomacy, and personality.

  • Attire: Specific attire will be announced by the Executive Producer.

  • Scoring: The on-stage interview accounts for 25% of the final total score.

WHAT’S YOUR PLUS - OUTFIT OF CHOICE

  • Details & Attire: Finalists reprise their earlier performance, showcasing their unique “Plus” and modeling their chosen outfit. Creativity, poise, and alignment with their theme remain key.

  • Scoring: This category accounts for 25% of the final total score.

EVENING GOWN

  • Details & Attire: Finalists present their evening gowns, adhering to the same guidelines as the preliminary round. Elegance and poise are essential.

  • Scoring: This category accounts for 25% of the final total score.
