After being crowned Miss Plus America Ms. Community Service 2017, I wasted no time in continuing my dedication to volunteerism. I was so blessed to be awarded the community service title for my state and then national level. Within the first month obtaining my new title,
I was offered to help a local organization, The Warren Center. I recorded radio and Youtube promos (July 31st, 2017) that aired during North Texas Giving Day in September 2017. Also, in Aug 2017, a new pageant system was announced, “Queens of Texas.” They asked for me to come and speak at their information meeting. Unexpectedly, Hurricane Harvey ravaged through South Texas, I gathered supplies and donated to local churches(Aug 29th, 2017) In Texas, we had the first ever Arab American Festival, celebrating the culture of all 22 Arab nations. I am the first Arab-American Texas state queen and was asked to make an appearance at this inaugural event (Sept 3rd, 2017) September in Texas means, State Fair time. Was blessed to ride in the nightly parade.
The holiday season is my favorite time of year. This is when community service and volunteerism is kicked into overdrive. I was given so many opportunities to serve. I volunteered at Medical City: Children’s Hospital Snow City. The hospital provides gifts for the patient and their family and volunteers wrap the gifts for them. (Dec 22nd and 23rd 2017) I also volunteered at Restland Memorial Cemetery to lay wreaths on veterans graves. I rounded out the Christmas holiday by volunteering at the Soup Kitchens annual Celebrate Jesus event. The Soup mobile host 500 homeless individuals in the epic Dallas Omni Hotel on Christmas Eve. I was apart of the receiving line.
Pageantry and community service is what has enhanced my life. On December 31st, 2017 I was asked to speak at the Sherin Mathews Memorial. It was one of the most difficult and painful events I had participated in. Little Sherin was reported missing by her parents in October 2017. Her body was found 3 weeks later. Her parents murdered her. It happened a mile from my home. Being a mother and representing the city of Richardson in the Texas Plus America pageant, I was asked to write a speech and sing Amazing Grace. (Dec 30th, 2017) I started my New Years Day off with what else? Volunteering! I appeared and helped out Vogel Alcove. They offer childcare services to those who living in shelter and or low income. (Jan 1st, 2018)
Entering the new year, I wanted to broaden my volunteer resume. I saw that the cupcake shop, Sprinkles was donating proceeds made by their Times Up cupcake sales. Proceeds would for the Me Too and Times Up legal fund. Helping pay for legal services for those affected by sexual harassment. I helped with posting on social media. ( Jan 8th, 2018)
