America Kicks Off This Weekend!
The Hilton Dallas Lincoln
Center is the setting for this year's Texas Plus America Pageant.
Preliminaries will begin at 7 PM on Saturday, May 29th and Finals
will be gin on Sunday, May 30th at 6:30 PM. Preliminary
tickets are $15 at the door. Finals tickets are $25 at the
door. Cash only.

Yesterday marked the
beginning of the third annual Louisiana State Plus America Pageant.
The finals will begin on Sunday, April 18th at 11:00 AM at
the Marriott
Hotel,
5500 Hilton Ave. in
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Tickets are:
Adults $10,
visiting Queens $5,
children $3 at the door.
Nevada Plus
America Pageant Kicks Off This Weekend!
Doors will open at 4:30 at
the CEWC in Las Vegas, Nevada today. Come see who will be
crowned Miss, Ms and Mrs. Nevada! Tickets are $25 and
will be sold at the door. *A portion of all proceeds will be

The Louisiana Plus America
pageant is accepting applications for the Miss Baton Rouge Plus
America pageant! This preliminary pageant will take place on
January 9th at the Marriott Hotel in Baton Rouge.

October 11, 2009 - 2009 AIDS Walk of Oklahoma City
Myriad Botanical Gardens - Downtown Oklahoma City
Registration 12:30 p.m. Walk 2:00 p.m.

The AIDS epidemic is far from being over. Although AIDS
death rates have declined due to drug therapy, new
infection rates have not declined; therefore, Oklahoma
City area case loads continue to increase. Females and
young people are becoming infected at an increasing rate
than in the past and communities of color continue to be
disproportionately affected.
October 11, 2009 – Dove
Self-Esteem Workshop Part 2 – The Completion
Langston University – OKC, 4205 N. Lincoln Blvd – from
3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
This workshop is for girls ages 6-17 and their adult
mentors. These Queens and Princesses Tea Party will focus
on socialization and self-esteem training based on the
Dove principles. You can find more about the program at

The Community Youth Outreach (CYO) received the Dove grant
last year and this is their 2nd workshop. The
CYO group does great work in the community and I’m a key
spokesperson for their events. CYO is located at 1208 NE
50th on Oklahoma City, OK 73111 and they can be

October 23 – 25, 2009 – Plus Teen USA Pageant and
Conference in Arlington, TX

Monique will be leading a team of pageant coaches and
judges that will educate, encourage and inspire young
ladies and women. The National Director, Jacqueline
Lawrence, has put together an outstanding conference and
pageant. “The Original Runway Diva”, Sharon Quinn, will
be guest speaker and trainer during the conference. If
you live in the area, you still have time to register just
go to the website. The fabulous Ruby Gettinger of the
Style Network’s “Ruby” will make a special guest
appearance and will be taping the pageant. So join me
and the other Oklahoma Queens as we continue “Promoting
Inner Beauty and Confidence that Permeates Outwardly” at
the Plus Teen USA Pageant and Conference.
October – All Month Long
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month,
Monique will be collecting and donating toiletry items for
the Women’s Shelter in Norman, OK. This project will be
combined with the efforts of the Rose State College
Domestic Violence Committee and the Oklahoma City Urban
League Young Professionals. Monique hopes to personal
collect and donate over 100 items so that someone else can
feel better with their decision to leave a domestic
violence situation.
The Girl Scout Troop #630 has decided to work with the
Sigma Beta Club to gather 5,000 can foods and/or
non-perishable items.
They have made it a competition between grade levels at
the school and will be offering some great prizes in
November for the winners. You can make a financial
contribution via paypal by emailing me at
n2delta@yahoo.com
or you can bring items up to
Marcus Garvey Leadership Charter School located at 1537 NE
24th in OKC. We will need everyone’s help to
reach our goal and put food on the table in numerous
Oklahoma homes. I want to thank the men of Phi Beta Sigma
– Delta Beta Sigma Chapter, teachers at Marcus Garvey
Leadership Charter School, and Feed the Children.

fashion show and educational seminar at the Avenue on
November 21, 2009. This will be the BEST show for

MPA Now Accepting Teen Ambassador Applications!
This year, the Miss Plus America
Organization will be crowning a Teen Ambassador. We are
taking at-large applications for those states who do not have
a Plus America State Director offering the competition.
This year's contest will be an online competition. Entry
fee is $125 per teen-delegate. The winner will be
crowned at the national pageant and will be awarded a three
day, two night hotel stay during the pageant for her and one
traveling companion. Email the National Director at
director@missplusamerica.com

Queens To Make Joint-Appearance!
The Miss Oklahoma Plus
America Queens will be volunteering for the Urban League June
27, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Ok at their membership drive and
awards gala. This is a community event and will bring more
awareness to the Miss Oklahoma Plus America Pageant!!! For

Is MPA "Taboo"?
National Geographic's flagship series,
"Taboo" will be present at this year's Miss Plus America
Pageant. "Taboo" is a long running documentary series shot
on every continent around the world and focuses on the world's
most interesting animal, the human. The series is
dedicating an episode about dispelling the myth that big is not
beautiful. Coronet Productions is looking forward to
working with this prestigious and award winning company in the
hopes of bringing understanding that being perfect in others'
eyes is not what is important. What is important is living
our lives beyond the boundaries of the perception of perfection
in the eyes of others.

Miss Illinois Delegates!
The
Miss Illinois Plus America Pageant has made a drastic drop in
entry fees for their pageant!
Because of the overall generosity of their sponsors, the Miss
Illinois Plus America Pageant can now offer the opportunity for
qualified contestants to enter the 2009 Miss Illinois Plus
pageant for a fee of $100.00 per person instead of $500.00 per

Pageant Hosting A Workshop!
On April 4, 2009 The Miss Oklahoma
Plus America Co-Directors will be hosting a Pageant Workshop.
It will be held at Langston University, 4205 N Lincoln
Boulevard, Oklahoma City, OK 73105. The cost for participation
in the workshop is $10.

Who's Who Among American
Female Executives?
Nanette Watts was
nominated and has been selected as an honoree in the 2009
publication of Who's Who Among American Female Executives.
Nanette's selection was based on her significant contributions
to the pageant industry as a director, judge, and coach. With a
graduate degree in educational administration, the committee was
equally impressed with her accomplishments in the field of
education.
Nanette was our 2004
Plus American Woman and our second Plus America Lifetime Queen.
She is currently the Executive Director of the Texas Plus
America Pageant. as well as the founder and principal
consultant for Pageants Unlimited Plus. She specializes in the
development of communication skills and stage presentation.
Mrs. Watts has coached clients competing in the Miss USA,
American Coed, National American Miss, and Mrs. America Systems.
She will begin taping
the second season of her cable talk show It's About Time
in September. The 2009 Texas Plus America queens will co-host
the show.

The Texas Plus America
Pageant has its own scent. Pageants Unlimited Plus and the Texas
Plus America Pageant joined forces with Unique Cosmetics
Incorporated. Nanette Watts, the director of the Texas Plus
America Pageant, said she was looking for something special for
her ladies. The talented team of Ashley Henderson and Gaylandra
Carter put their heads and noses together and designed an
intoxicating scent befitting of queens. But not just any queens.
The fine mixture of florals and fruits was designed exclusively
for the Texas Plus America state and local queens. Featured
items will be body lotion, body splash, eau de toilette, candles,
body wash, and car freshener. And what is the name of this new

The Miss Plus America
Pageant has a new state pageant! The
Miss Nevada Plus America Pageant is
tentatively scheduled for March 20 - 21, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tracy Dawn, former Ms Nevada Plus America has joined states such as
Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas and become the fourth state director
for the Miss Plus America Pageant. We welcome you with open
arms and send best wishes for a successful pageant your first year
and in many years to come.

Miss Plus
America Elite Makes First Appearance!
Calandra Griffin made her
first appearance at the at the Torrid model search in Arlington,
Texas last Friday. July 25th marked her second appearance as she
attended "The Red Carpet Affair", a political gala to raise
money for Texas delegates nominated this past spring to go to Austin
and fulfill their duties.
August 7th is the Dallas
ISD Back to School Fair. She will be modeling uniforms and
showcasing herself, her MPA title and her position within the
district.
August 14th Calandra will
me making an appearance as a hostess at the AMC Theatre Children's Film
Festival.
August 15th she will attend
her coronation reception where she will crown the new Ms. Texas Plus
America 2008 Regina Linwood.
What a great start to the
year Calandra! We can't wait to read your first diary entry!!

Joyce Lewis made
an appearance on May 9, 2008 for the Central Oklahoma
Alzheimer's Associations "A Masque in Black & White" themed
annual gala at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel.
This event
raised a
record breaking amount of over $200,000.00 to go towards all
programs offered by the Alzheimer's Association, including
caregiver counseling, support groups and so many more. There are
more than 70,000 Oklahomans live with Alzheimer's, with someone
developing the disease every 71 seconds.

New Mrs.
Louisiana Plus America Crowned!
Lori Adams has been crowned
the new Mrs. Louisiana Plus America. Erin Littell was crowned
in Metairie, Louisiana in April but has resigned her title secondary
to an illness in her family. She will return to compete again
in the 2009 Miss Louisiana Plus America Pageant. MPA wishes
her the best during this difficult time.

into her shoes is Mrs. Lori Adams. She will be
representing Louisiana in the Miss Plus America Pageant in July.
